The Apeks Quantum Dive Computer, is one of many computers manufactured in Japan and sold under various brand names. Very popular due to its ease of use when setting up and using it underwater, plus it comes at a very attractive price.

The device is activated by contacting two contacts with water (like Uwatec’s Digital), so we can test it on a surface by pressing two slipped fingers on the aforementioned points. At this point the LCD display should read “Water”, otherwise our computer will display information such as time, day of the week and date.

It automatically sets and adjusts the atmospheric pressure depending on the altitude, but we can intervene in these settings by selecting one of two safety factors. The whole device is operated using 3 buttons, so it is very intuitive.

With this model we can set the nitrox between 21-99% for each of the 3 preset mixes we can use during the dive. We can also set a maximum PO2 between 1.0 and 1.6 bar.

The “B” button is used to change settings, while the “A” button allows you to go to the next screen, the “Mode” button allows you to save settings and exit to the main menu. There is no problem switching the computer to gauge mode, where it will measure our dive time and serve as a depth gauge. We can calmly set the alarm for the dive time and the maximum depth we wish to reach. The data appearing on the display are clear and easy to read. The computer has a reset button, so it can be used by several people, whether in a centre or a diving club.

The maximum depth to which the new Quantum will be useful is 100m, we can program our own decompression stops, it also has a function to plan non-decompression dives, logbook, Pc interface, works in “mode” and “gauge” modes and has a backlit LCD display.
