Descent G1 – Garmin’s latest dive computer model has just gone on sale.
The Garmin Descent G1 Solar dive computer is a new model in the watch computer segment. The device uses innovative technology designed with diving in mind, but also has other advanced features. Great for 24/7 health and fitness monitoring, it also has a smartwatch function and offers solar charging capabilities. All this in a durable and robust case.
The Descent G1 series is ideal for all divers who appreciate the functionality of a sports smartwatch, even during various surface activities. Descent G1 Solar introduces a line of innovative Garmin diving devices solar-charging capability. This will give users more time to engage in their land-based activities without the need for frequent charging,” said Dan Bartel, vice president of global sales at Garmin.
TheGarmin computer features an easy-to-read, high-contrast display and a 45mm diameter case. The G1 series watches offer a new compact design that combines attractive looks and functionality. Water resistant to 10 ATM (100 metres) and tested to the EN133319 engineering standard for diver compliance. It features sealed induction buttons and a sapphire lens.
TheGarmin Descent G1 is extremely rugged and ready for trips both above and below the water’s surface. Smartwatches are available in a range of colours and are compatible with Garmin QuickFit® straps. This allows divers to choose between a long or short strap to wear on their wetsuit. The Descent G1 series watches feature a battery that lasts up to 25 hours in dive mode, up to 3 weeks in smartwatch mode and up to 4 months in smartwatch mode for solar-charged models.
TheDescent G1 series offers features for both novice recreational divers and experienced technical divers. It supports multiple dive modes for single and multi-gas dives (air, nitrox, trimix and 100% oxygen). There are also Gauge, Apnea, Apnea Hunt and CCR modes. The G1 series is also equipped with a 3-axis digital compass and vibrating depth alarms. On the easy-to-read display, you’ll find all the key information such as depth, dive time, temperature, ascent/descent rate, PO2, decompression and safety stop information and the current time – all customisable to the user’s preference.
Freediving enthusiasts will be able to use the dive and surface screens in apnea diving modes. They’ll also get more indicators including, for example, dive and ascent rates to help analyze performance between dives. The Garmin Descent G1 automatically marks dive and exit points with multi-GNSS satellite support. It also records them in the Garmin Dive™2 app, so you can easily view a detailed history of each dive stage.
