An American tourist has drowned during an underwater proposal. The incident took place at the Manta Resort near Pemba Island, a popular resort in Tanzania. The entire incident was captured on footage, which was probably intended as a romantic keepsake.

An underwater proposal is a popular way to make an impression and ask for the hand of your chosen one in an unconventional way. Unfortunately, as you can see, similar attempts do not always end well and there is no “and they lived happily ever after”. Unfortunately, water is still a dangerous element, and some people seem to forget this and get carried away by the moment, neglecting the danger.

The unlucky bridegroom dived in breathlessly and held up a handwritten proposal card to the glass while his chosen one recorded everything on video. Probably at that moment neither of them thought that these would be their last moments together.

The whole incident was confirmed in an interview with a BBC reporter, by a representative of the Manta Resort where the couple were staying.

“Mr Weber drowned while diving alone outside an underwater room. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon,” Manta Resort said in a press release
