“It is as if a person is learning to walk in a completely new world. The visitor gets the impression that nothing is important beyond the ongoing moment,” says the installation’s author.

In a hangar converted into a gallery at the University of Westminster, opposite the famous Madame Tussaud’s Museum, over 4,250 m² of floor space are four screens projecting video sequences recorded in the Red Sea near the popular resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

“It started when I was feeling a bit lost in my life and just then, I signed up for a freediving course. From that moment on, everything changed. The inspiration came back and I was simply drawn into a beautiful new world, ” Amati further explains.

This new experience led first to productions made for the Discovery Channel and then to original films, which led to the exhibition described above. For her films Martina Amati received a Bafta award in 2010 and a Wellcome Trust award in 2012.
