In our travels through the most interesting diving sites in Poland, this time we visited the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. In the distance of about 16 km west of Szczytno, there is one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in the country. It is, of course, Lake Świętajno.

The matter of the name only on the surface seems a bit complicated. Well, several dozen kilometres further east, there is a lake with an identical name, which is why the one described by us is often referred to as Świętajno near Narty, or Lake Narty.

It is a whitefish lake, 2.2km long and 1.2km wide, situated 139m above sea level. Its total area is 175ha. Świętajno is an open reservoir, connected with the nearby Brajnickie Lake. It is characterised by a gravel-sandy, hard and gently sloping bottom. The maximum depth is less than 30m, while the average is about 11m. Water clarity is 4-6m, even in the summer months, and the lake itself was classified as a Class I water quality lake in 2002. The shores, although varied, are for the most part easily accessible.

Life in Lake Narty is quite poor. Vegetation, both in rushes and underwater, is not very developed, while fish stocks are severely depleted by people. Still, if we are lucky, we can find representatives of such species as pike, perch, roach, tench, burbot, eel and bream.

Underwater there is no lack of infrastructure and diving facilities. The reservoir has been well developed for diving tourism and we can find here as many as 5 platforms, located at depths of: 4m, 6m, 7m, 11m and 23m. Additionally, there are wrecks at our disposal: a yacht at 16m and a car at 19m. All these attractions are connected by a railing, while on the surface there are markers in the form of buoys. To be able to enjoy these benefits, you will have to pay a small fee at the diving base. There we can also refill air (1l = 1.3 pln).

The place is easy to find and popular among tourists. Nearby you will find many resorts and diving bases. Divers, anglers and holidaymakers are sure to enjoy a visit to this place.
