J2 – Exploring a Mexican cave – meeting

Our portal has become a media patron of a very interesting event, which will be a meeting of cave divers in Warsaw. The event, organised by the PTTK Central Library in Warsaw, will present the results of the expedition of the Warsaw Speleoclub, whose members explored undiscovered corridors of the inaccessible Mexican cave – J2.

In May 2013 speleologists from Speleoklub Warszawski returned from an international expedition to the Mexican J2 cave. The aim of the expedition was to connect the cave with the Cheve system and thus discover the deepest cave in the Western Hemisphere. To do this, the cavers had to penetrate two siphons (one of which had never been penetrated before). Performing this task at a depth of over one kilometre, 8 km from the cave opening, was a complex and dangerous operation, without precedent in world speleology.

If you want to know:

– What was it like diving at that depth?
– What problems did the cavers have to overcome?
– What was hidden behind the siphons?
– How to survive more than 20 days non-stop underground?
– How do you organise an expedition involving 46 cavers from 12 countries?
– Is space technology useful underground?

Come and meet the participants of the expedition! Free entrance!

When: 22 October 2013, 7pm

Where: PTTK , 11 Senatorska Street Warsaw, 1st floor – conference room

Organisers:

– Cave Divers Group GNJ PZA
– PTTK Central Library in Warsaw
– Santi Diving
– Poseidon Poland
– Speleoklub of Warsaw
