5-10-15… The mysterious name of the event may bring to mind a breathtaking programme for children and young people. This time, however, it will be ice-breaks placed every 5m. And now the question is: what are they for? So: we are not cutting them for ice for drinks, nor are we going to catch fish. They will be used to test oneself in the icy water with the ceiling overhead.
The breath-hold dive will be open to everyone to try and see what it is like on the other side of the mirror. The condition for taking part in this unusual attempt is being at least 18 years old and wearing a swimsuit. The attempt to swim the declared distance can also be made in a wetsuit and flippers. All daredevils are invited on 09.02.2019 at 12.00 in the vicinity of the town beach in Giżycko.
As the originators of this formula and organisers, we undertake to prepare a track for the championship. “The track will consist of 6 equilateral triangles with sides of approx. 1.8 m, cut out in a straight line. The distance between the “centres” of the successive triangles will be 5 metres, so that the full distance between the 1st and 6th position will be 25 metres.
Between the 1st and 6th post, at a depth of 2 metres, a 10 mm railing rope will be stretched to facilitate the declared sections. On the edge of the first post, in the direction of the swim, a handrail will be installed to allow you to hold on before the start and concentrate. The depth of the reservoir at the competition site will be approximately 5 m.
The sections between the stands will be cleared of snow or sprinkled with coloured powder, depending on the prevailing weather conditions. On the “sides” of the competitors’ stands, at a distance of 10m from the line marking the axis of the “track”, there will be safety divers’ stands prepared. During the trials, each competitor will be assisted by 3 divers in their area of responsibility. Security on the surface will be provided by lifeguards of the Mazury Voluntary Rescue Service.
Description of the trial
– Participants start in the order of declared distances established during the briefing
– Each competitor has 1 minute to prepare for the start and signal to the person in charge that they are ready for the attempt
– Participants swim along the stretched rope and emerge in the ice hole at the end of the trial
– Competitors start in a harness and are clipped to the guide rope
