France 2013 – day eight Gould du Pont – 192m

It’s been a long time since we wrote what’s going on with our chief cave diver – Krzysiek Starnawski. Of course, media silence doesn’t mean that Dualrebreather Team is lazy, quite the contrary! Polish divers spend June in France, where they explore local caves.

Reports and materials from subsequent dives are published on a regular basis on the “board” of the dual rebreather facebook. Apart from information about next activities and photos, we could not miss video material, especially from 192m dive! Below some information and the mentioned video.

“Joel and I have just finished our struggle with the Goul du Pont cave

Joel set off in the morning towards home and I am still drying things and packing the car and in the afternoon I set off towards Gramat and the caves in the area, this time just for recreation.

The result of our dive yesterday was to deepen the cave to 192m and lay 37m of new rope. These lower parts of the cave are dramatically different from the bright parts close to the surface. The rock gets very sharp and has a brownish hue. The new gallery discovered during this dive, very promising for further exploration, but also very difficult, is called the “Bura Gallery”.

The whole dive took me 8 hours, of which 2.5 hours were spent basking in the habitat I had set up the day before.

The water temperature was 12 degrees, clarity 15-20m and no perceptible current. We didn’t “bite” much of the cave, but as for the first reconnaissance dive, I’m very satisfied and certainly with the experience we gained here and the knowledge of the cave, we will go much further in future dives.

At this point, I would like to say a big thank you to Joel, who came from Spain for 3 days to help me with the whole project and brought me the missing equipment. His skills and diligence were irreplaceable.

Yesterday we were also accompanied by French diver Karim Malamoud. The whole event would not have happened if it wasn’t for Diver Tug who lent us two of his scooters. Many thanks!

In a few days I will post a detailed description of the action, more photos and footage from the helmet-mounted camera of the new parts of the cave.”
