Divers prepare for Baltic wrecks

As we can read on website of the Frogdivers diving group, they are preparing for an intensified exploration of the Baltic Sea. The main object of interest for Polish divers will be unknown and unexplored wrecks. In 2013, the Frogdivers team will want to make up for the last season, when the weather seriously thwarted their plans.

On the weekend of 13-14 April, another group meeting took place. As they write on their website, after a series of theoretical-archival-research meetings, it was time to dive and check the equipment. All the equipment is already prepared with a view to the planned explorations.

Increasingly, the expedition dates are also approaching. From the preliminary findings, it has been decided on two 9-day exploration sails. In the first period the search will concern the waters north of Ustka. During this time, in addition to quite long sailing-reconnaissance, divers will try to identify the carrier found in 2012. The next nine days will be devoted to research in the vicinity of Darłowo within a radius of 15-20Mm.

“Our activities for the past few weeks have been focused on verifying the data we have from previous expeditions and determining the last details of the expedition. In this part we are of course supported by BHMW with their knowledge of underwater objects, it is thanks to their work that we are able to optimise and verify our data.

A few days ago we received the response from the MW Hydrographic Office that we had been waiting 1.5 months for. Our uncertainty was dispelled by the feedback attached to our list of underwater object positions. The information received is o “ptimistic, if it is confirmed in reality it may turn out that we will hit some interesting objects, about which there was no information so far.”

The expedition preparations take a lot of time, we hope to have side scan sonar on our trips, which will allow us to search the bottom of the Baltic Sea more thoroughly. We will live, sleep, eat and fill our bottles on the boat. This will save us time in preparing for the dive.

Our experienced blender will be responsible for preparing the gases, which will also be prepared on the boat, and the possibility of sailing at night, which the new vessel gives us, so that we can be in position at 7.00 a.m. and start exploratory dives will allow us to be much more mobile than last year.

We have gathered a team of very experienced divers, whose skills allow for safe exploration of wrecks located at greater depths. We are planning dives on the depths of 40-50 meters, we also intend to check some deeper positions. We invite other experienced individuals and divers to join us to exchange information about potential unknown wrecks.”

The project is led by Jacek Trembowelski, Krzysztof Późniak, Piotr Kardasz and Tomasz Pawęska
