The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is about to conduct a joint exploration of deep ocean zones with Caladan Oceanic Ltd. The result of this cooperation will be a map of the ocean depths, as well as documentation on the organisms living there.

Caladan Oceanic is a company that was founded by Victor Vescovo, the first man to reach the deepest point of all five oceans. According to retired US Navy Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, currently serving as assistant secretary at NOAA, the collaboration will enable faster and more efficient exploration of the deep.

“NOAA will work with Victor Vescovo because he has the passion and technological capabilities to help us accelerate our mission to explore, characterise and map the ocean. We look forward to combining the expertise of our scientists and the unique capabilities of Caladan.”

NOAA and Caladan Oceanic recently signed a memorandum expressing their willingness to meet regularly and share goals, objectives and explore ways and opportunities to work together.

You can find out more about the Five Depths project and Victor Vescovo’s immersions in each of the 5 oceans from his talk at the TED Talk (a science conference organised annually by the US non-profit Sapling Foundation).
