Yesterday, 3 March 2020, while diving near the pier in Orłowo, two divers found firearms and ammunition. After initial examination and making sure what they were dealing with, the weapons were unloaded and brought to the surface. The police were informed about the dangerous find and arrived at the site and secured the find. The case is being explained by officers from KPP Gdynia Redłowo.

About 14.30, after finishing the dive at the torpedo boat house, Witold Gotkowicz and Radosław Urbaniak decided to visit the pier in Orłowo. This is an extremely popular place among Tricity divers, where during a shallow dive you can always find various “treasures”. Usually these are mobile phones and various other harmless lost things from the surface, but sometimes dangerous things can be found.

This is exactly what happened this time. After spending about a quarter of an hour underwater, 15-20 metres from the pier head towards the sea, at a depth of 3 metres, IANTD and TDI diving instructor Witold Gotkowicz came across an object resembling a firearm. Upon closer inspection he realised that the gun was in good condition, loaded and ready for use.

While still underwater the diver unloaded the weapon by taking out the magazine and removing a cartridge from the cartridge chamber. After another 10 minutes of diving his partner Radosław Urbaniak, a few metres from the place where the gun was found, found a box with ammunition.

Upon returning to the surface, the divers notified the police, who secured the find and began investigations.
