The Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch has just gone on sale, which among its many useful features also has a dive computer mode.
Apple’s new smartwatch has already managed to generate a lot of interest and lively discussions in the diving part of the Internet. It’s not surprising, after all, it’s unusual for a brand like Apple to try to enter the diving equipment market. Below is the information that accompanied the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra.
It doesn’t matter to him whether you’re water-skiing in the Canaries or bouncing off a wave while kitesurfing in Hel. The Apple Watch Ultra can handle it. It has a new depth gauge and provides the measurements and functions needed by divers and freedivers descending to depths of up to 40 meters. The device is EN13319 compliant, an internationally recognized standard for diving accessories.
Together with Huish Outdoors, experts in underwater innovation, we have developed the Oceanic+ app. Apple Watch Ultra turns into a real dive computer with it. In this app you will find everything you need for recreational scuba diving with aqualung or apnea diving to a depth of 40 meters. And on top of that, it is extremely easy to use.
Deep dive site data. The Oceanic+ app on the iPhone can do much more than calculate depth and dive time. It can take into account local conditions, including tides and water temperature, as well as information sent by the divers themselves. For example, comments about visibility and currents. You are left to plan your dive on your watch.
On most dive computers, you have to click through a long string of options to see the data you need. On the Oceanic+, all you have to do is turn the Digital Crown to view additional screens. You can easily read complex information on the large, bright display because they are color-coded in different colors.
Oceanic+ sends the same warnings as a standard dive computer – from decompression limits to alerts about ascent speeds that are too fast to information about safety stops. Based on Bühlmann’s decompression algorithm, the app constantly calculates and monitors dive parameters that you can check at a glance.
You’ll get all your dive data, including GPS-determined immersion and ascent points, instantly at the surface of the water. They are automatically synced to your iPhone and the cloud. You can also see a summary of your dive profile and look at your logbook to check previous dives or share your exploits with family and friends.
The app uses a new depth gauge and is perfect for snorkeling and other recreational underwater activities. It allows you to check the time, current depth, water temperature, time spent under the surface or maximum depth reached and can start automatically when you are submerged.
Prepare, set, dive. Operating the watch in the water will be simpler if you program the activity button to launch the app or compass for navigation while diving with the Oceanic+ app.
Seaweed. It is molded from fluoroelastomer for lightness and flexibility. It has a titanium buckle and a spring-locked titanium loop that, when worn on the chosen strap segment, guarantees a secure fastening. Even during high-speed water sports. Thanks to an attachable extension, it can be worn over a thick foam suit.
The second day of a trip to the mountains, the last stage of a triathlon or a long dive on a coral reef. No problem. A more powerful battery means extra energy with enough to do everything, and with plenty of room to spare. The battery will last up to 36 hours of normal operation and up to 60 hours in low power mode.
