The spotted individual is a finwhal, which is the second largest animal on Earth. Adults can reach a length of 27 metres and a weight of between 70-100 tonnes! The fin whale is a species of cetacean from the family Foldidae and is found in all open seas and oceans. Mostly, these whales stay away from shore.

Unfortunately, it will not stay in the Baltic Sea for too long, because of modest food supplies. Adults of this species can eat up to half a ton of fish a day!

Previously, the presence of whales of this species was recorded in the Baltic Sea in 2007 and 1930.
