Work has begun in Egypt to create an underwater museum of military vehicles. As hurghada24.co.uk reported in a post on its Facebook page, the first T-34 tanks have already appeared on site and are waiting to be sunk.

There is no denying that Egypt has decided to follow a proven example, which has proven to be a huge success in neighbouring Jordan. It is there, in the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba, that the first underwater museum of military vehicles was created, the photos of which have simply flooded the Internet in recent weeks.

The museum created in Hurghada will be the first attraction of this kind for underwater tourists, which will be created in the Egyptian part of the Red Sea. The whole project is being carried out in agreement and full cooperation with the Egyptian army.

The local authorities decided on this project for several reasons. Firstly, the huge success of its neighbours certainly did not go unnoticed. Especially that Egypt is still not back to the way it was before the Arab Spring. Concrete measures are therefore needed to bring tourism to the level of the best years.

A separate issue is the devastation and degradation of coral reefs in the Red Sea that has taken place in recent decades. The creation of new underwater attractions will not only relieve the pressure on coral reefs, but will also stimulate the flourishing of underwater life, as we have seen in many similar cases around the world.

Any items that could pose a risk to underwater residents and divers, such as plastics, cables and any fluids used to operate the vehicles, will be removed in advance from the machines to be sunk.

For the moment, the details of the whole project and the exact place where the museum is to be created are not yet known. According to unofficial information, it will be located away from the most popular areas of the resort. As for the equipment to be sunk, it is known that tanks and armoured vehicles will go down, as well as infantry vehicles and a transport helicopter. All manufactured in the USSR.
