Admittedly Vertical Blue 2021 stands for world recordsBut with this feat, Alenka Artnik surprised everyone. The athlete from Slovenia performed a perfect dive to a depth of 120m. In addition to winning the overall competition, she set an incredible new CMAS world record.
It should be noted that there are many remarkable records in the women’s competition, but this particular one is special. With her result, Alenka Artnik has jumped into the ranks of the best men. In the constant weight competition (CWT), there are only 7 competitors who have reached a greater depth. Slightly greater.
At this moment, only a group of 7 absolute legends of Men’s Freediving are in front of Artnik. These are Alexei Molchanov – 131m (the result set at Vertical Blue 2021), David Mullins – 126m, Guillaume Néry – 126m, Herbert Nitsch – 124m, Martin Štěpánek – 122m, William Trubridge – 122m and Homar Leuci – 121m.
Coming to the Bahamas to compete in Vertical Blue is a dream come true for a freediver. It comes as no surprise that everyone here gives it their all, often preparing peak form for this point in the season. Alenka Artnik and her feat deserves all the more respect and admiration. Until now, only Alexei Artnik Vertical Blue only Alexei Molchanov dived deeper (126m FIM and 131m CWT).
Among the women, her main rival Alessia Zecchini was obviously the closest to her result. The Italian recorded a great dive to 115m, but it was not enough to snatch victory from the hands of the Slovenian on that day. Without a doubt, Alenka Artnik ‘s incredible world record will be remembered for a long time.
