Leading Polish freediver Agata Bogusz has been nominated for the prestigious Travelery poll organised by National Geographic. In the justification for the nomination we can read that she received it “for taking up a pioneering challenge in the field of travel, exploration or extreme sports.

Agata Bogusz is a well-known figure in the freediving and diving community. For many years she has been leading many initiatives and trainings aimed at popularising free diving in Poland. We have written many times in the past, for example about the Freediver Rally organised by her, the first edition of which took place in 2010.

She is also an accomplished athlete and a 13-time (!) Polish record holder. She set her latest record on 13 October 2019, during the Calm Zone Oktoberfest competition in Kalamata, Greece. She reached a depth of 101 m during a dive of 3 min and 26 s and thus broke her own national record in the fixed-ballast competition – CWT.

It is worth noting here that with her result she also equaled the Polish men’s record, set by Mateusz Malina at the AIDA World Championships in Nice exactly one month earlier.

She closed 2019 with another great success, defending her master’s thesis in psychology, thus adding to her freediving achievements with a scientific study on the correlation between freediving and stress resistance.

Votes can be cast for Agata in the “Stunt” category, which we of course encourage you to do! For our vote to be valid, we need to vote for 1 nominee in each of the 5 categories. Voting will run until 5 May 2020. You can find the possibility of voting and more details on plebiscite Travelery 2020 here.
