After 18 years the Polish Diving Championships are back!

The last such event took place in Poland 18 years ago. Although the Poles were successful in diving competitions (medals in the European and world championships), the country ceased to organize competitions in the rank of championships. Therefore, in 2011, after a long break of several years, the Olecko Diving Association “Amfiprion” revived the idea.

The 1st and 2nd Polish National Diving Championships in Underwater Orientation Olecko 2011 and 2012 were a test of the organisational capabilities of the Olecko Association and the starting motivation of competitors from all over the country. Thanks to two successful editions of the event, the Board of the Polish Diving Association agreed to organise the POLISH OCEAN DIVERSHIP CHAMPIONSHIPS IN UNDERWATER ORIENTATION in Olecko. In this way, after a break of 18 years, the group of arbitrators will appoint new Polish Champions in individual disciplines!

CONTACT, 1 day (10 August 2013):

The route consists of a starting buoy and 5 landmarks (wooden crosses, poles). The last point is also the finish line. The length of the course is 650 m. Competitors move along the route within a certain time limit and have to show that they have found each landmark by pulling or twisting the buoys. Ideally, they should cover the whole course as quickly as possible and when they have found all the poles. A competitor’s start score depends on these two elements.

STAR, Day 2 (11 August 2013.

The course consists of five starting buoys, five streamer buoys and five orientation buoys. The last buoy is the finishing line. The length of the course is 600m. Competitors must swim (underwater) around the buoys in each case and find the next marker buoy within the time limit. They mark their presence at the point by pulling or turning the buoy. The swim around the buoy must be done correctly and if the competitor misses the buoy incorrectly they will be pulled out of the water by the course judge when they are near the next landmark. The name of the competition comes from the star-shaped spacing of the buoys on the lake. The place of the competitor depends on the speed of the course and on the buoys correctly avoided and the poles found.

TEAM COMPETITION VARIANT A

DRIVER COMPETITION, Day 2 (11 August 2013)

The team consists of 3 competitors. The course includes start buoys (1-4), landmarks A1 and A2, landmark B and a long 32 metre finish line. From start 1 the first competitor swims, from start 2 the 2nd competitor, both swim underwater to their meeting point A1. Similarly competitors 3 and 4 swim to their meeting point A2. From points A1 and A2 the pairs swim to point B. Once all four are together they swim back to the finish line and ideally hit the zero mark.
