Commandos from the elite Formosa special forces unit will have their own monument. The sculpture, depicting two Special Forces in full gear emerging from the water, will be placed at the end of the south pier, near the Gdynia Aquarium.

The idea of creating a monument was born already 4 years ago, in 2014. Now, thanks to the unanimous decision of the councillors, its realisation will finally be possible. The work is to be completed within the next 2 years, and the unveiling of the finished monument is scheduled for the end of August 2020.

The cost of the entire project is to be around PLN 0.5 million. The entire sum is to be covered by an association of former Formosa commandos.

[blockquote style=”2″]”We want to commemorate General Włodzimierz Potasiński, our commander and the unit’s patron, in this way. The monument is also to remind that Formosa is from Gdynia,” emphasizes Dariusz Terlecki, president of the KRS Formoza association, which brings together former commandos.”[/blockquote]

The figures depicted on the monument are to be a faithful reproduction of Formosa soldiers, along with many details of their equipment. The whole is to be created by French artist Michel Lenglard-Lensky.

It will consist of a bronze casting placed on an epoxy resin base, which will imitate water. The whole will be placed on a base made of green granite, reflecting the colour of the sea.
