A manufacturer based in Gdynia has started taking orders for the first batch of innovative folding fins. The creators of Exotech fins have created a design that not only uses modern engineering, but is also based on solutions inspired by nature.
Exotech folding fins are based on biomimetics, also known as bionics. It is an interdisciplinary field of science based on solutions borrowed from the natural world. It is about learning and adapting structures, phenomena and processes from nature and implementing them into practical application in technology or construction.
Because the folding fin s are made from recycled plastics, they are environmentally friendly. From the beginning, the idea was to make Exotech fin s in a sustainable and nature-friendly way.
The fins are lightweight and take up very little space, as they can be folded without any problem. All thanks to a special membrane that is placed between the two arms. The whole resembles a fish fin or the membrane on the legs of a frog.
The model that went on sale was developed in collaboration with the Naval Academy research team.
The idea for folding fins appeared initially as an attempt to create equipment ideal for special forces soldiers. Specialists operating in water and on land needed equipment that was lightweight and compact. All this to be able to perform their tasks comfortably and without unnecessary burden.
If something is lightweight and takes up very little space, that means it’s worth any diver’s consideration. Especially if you are a diver who loves to travel and have to fight luggage battles. The airlines don’t pamper you and any opportunity to slim down your luggage, is at a premium.
You can find out more about the fins from manufacturer pages. In turn, a campaign on Kickstarter will be launched at the end of February.
