Don’t like waving your fins when diving? Then why not use a small submarine for divers instead? Just such a marvel has been created by designer Minh-Lôc Truong and Stéphane Rousson.

The boat was on display at the ‘Green Air Show’ in Paris. The underwater vehicle, which measures 4.2m by 2.37m by 1.5m, is made of carbon fibre. It is powered by the muscles of the diver, who pedals two screws located on the sides. The person steering the boat has full control over the direction and depth of the submersible and can only move backwards using the controls inside. The submarine is capable of speeds of up to 10 miles per hour.

As its application, the authors of the project state that it can serve as a vehicle facilitating the exploration of the underwater world for divers and for scientists. The design team hopes to become the first French team to compete in the international submarine race to be held in June 2011 in the United States.
