On 28.11-09.12 in 3 Polish cities will take place the 2nd Sports Film Festival 360° organized by Mayfly and 360stopni. Everyone staying in Krakow, Wroclaw and Warsaw at that time will have the opportunity to take part in an extraordinary sports-film event.
Krakow
On Monday, 12.11, at 7 p.m. in Club u Louisa (Rynek Główny 13) the screening of the film “Life for Everest” and the meeting “Organism in the Death Zone” will take place. The guest of the event will be Roman Mazik – surgeon, Himalayan mountaineer, expeditionary physician, TOPR rescuer. Admission free.
The film ‘Life for Everest’ is an adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s Pulitzer Prize nominated bestseller ‘Into thin air’ (the Polish title of the book is ‘All for Everest’. The film is an attempt to recreate the tragic events that took place during a climbing expedition in May 1996.
After the film, we invite you to a meeting with Roman Mazik. Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service (TOPR) rescuer, mountaineer, speleologist, Himalayan mountaineer, alpine skier, specialist surgeon, participated in winter and summer expeditions to the Himalayas and Karakorum, where he acted as an expedition doctor, among others, twice to K2, Nanga Parbat and Makalu
Wrocław
On Tuesday, 13.11, at 7 p.m., the Czech Film pub (ul. Kiełbaśnicza 2) will host a screening of the film “Marathon” and a meeting with Joanna Susmanek. Entry free.
“Marathon” (The Spirit Of Marathon, dir. John Duhnam, 104 min.) is the first feature film that tries to capture the essence, drama and uniqueness of the spectacle taking place during the 42.195 km race. The camera accompanies five runners – three amateurs and two professionals – first as they prepare for and then as they compete in the Chicago Marathon.
The film screening will be followed by a meeting with Joanna Susmanek, who in July won the Polish vice-championship in triathlon on the Ironman 70.3 distance at the Herbalife Susz Triathlon competition.
Warsaw
On Sunday, 11 November, at 7 p.m. in Warsaw’s club “Południk Zero” (ul. Wilcza 25) a screening of the film “Zew ciszy” will take place. After the film, Wojciech Szatkowski from the Tatra Museum will present the fascinating and often dramatic story of conquering the Tatra Mountains entitled “Tatra mountaineers’ dance with death”. Entry free.
“Beckoning Silence” (Beckoning Silence, dir. Louise Osmond, 75 min.) is an Emmy award-winning picture showing the tragedy that took place on the Eiger in 1936, with carefully chosen characters including the narrator, Joe Simpson following in the footsteps of Andreas Hinterstoisser and Toni Kurz on the slopes of the famous Nordwand.
The presentation by Wojciech Szatkowski from the Tatra Museum in Zakopane, a Tatra guide, expert on the history of the Tatra Mountains and the Podtatrze Region, author of many books and publications (including the recently published “Goralenvolk – the history of betrayal”) will be devoted to the “Tatra mountaineers’ dance with death” in the years 1910 – 1939: Mariusz Zaruski, Stanisław Motyka, Wiesław Stanisławski and Wincenty Birkenmajer – the best of the best mountaineers of that era.
On Tuesday, 13.11, at 7 p.m. in Poludnik Zero (25 Wilcza Street) a screening of the film “In the dark” and a meeting “From the Tatra caves to the caves of the world” with Krzysztof Recielski and Rafał Kardasiem will take place. Entry free.
In the Dark – Expedition to the Interior of the Earth is (120 min.) unique footage comprising over two hours of pure speleology from the deepest cave known to mankind. In 2003, an expedition of Denis Provalov and Cavex deepened Krubera to 1,710 metres. A year later, Yuri Kasyan, Emil Vash and Katja Medvedeva stood at the bottom of the world below the 2,000-metre mark. A film featuring Oleg Klimchuk about the expedition to Krubera is juxtaposed with over an hour of footage by Marcus Taylor depicting the efforts of his father Alexander Klimchuk in this cave. Father and son have not spoken to each other to this day.
Rafał Kardaś and Krzysztof Recielski are cave mountaineers and climbers, members of Speleoklub Warszawski.
On Thursday, 15.11, at 7 pm, in the Hidden City (16 Noakowskiego Street), a screening of the film Maraton and a meeting with the members of the Warszawiaky group will take place. Entry free.
The first edition of the Festival took place in May 2008 and attracted over 12 thousand spectators. Patronage over this year’s event was taken by: President of the City of Warsaw, Polish Olympic Committee, CANAL+ Sport, Off.sport.pl, Antyradio, Skippers Tavern, Climb.pl, Portalgorski.pl, Magazyn Górski, Scigacz.pl, Divers24.pl, Divinglog.pl, Sailbook, Aktywni.pl, Globtroter.pl.
