12 new projects selected for Underwater Museum of Art

12 new projects selected for Underwater Museum of Art

TheCultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) and the South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) have announced the selection of 12 new jury-selected underwater sculpture designs for inclusion as a permanent exhibit, part of the expansion of the Florida Underwater Art Museum installation.

TheUnderwater Museum of Art was recently ranked by the prestigious TIME magazine, in its list of the “100 greatest places in the world”. With its activities, the UMA supports the creation and expansion of habitats for marine life and at the same time ensures that creative creative and educational initiatives are supported and the local economy is stimulated.

The installations to be created in 2019 will include sculptures prepared by:

  • Buttery by Alys Beach Construction (Alys Beach, FL)
  • To Refresh With Water by Beatriz Chachamovits (Sao Paolo, Brazil)
  • Saguaro by Ghazal Ghazo (Tucson, AZ)
  • Aspiration by Shohini Ghosh (Highlands Ranch, CO)
  • Flamingle by Rachel Herring (Santa Rosa Beach, FL)
  • Wave! by Benjamin Mefford (Wilsonville, OR)
  • I Found It! by Ingram Ober and Marisol Rendon (San Diego, CA)
  • Love Thyself by Maxine Orange (Destin, FL)
  • Let’s Not Blow This by Kevin Reilly (Montgomery, AL)
  • El Plastico by George Sabra (Georgetown, TX)
  • Depth of Decision by Gianna Stewart (Dorchester, MA)
  • X.Muta by Vince Tatum (Santa Rosa Beach, FL)

The sculptures will be deployed as part of the government’s existing SWARA artificial reef project, which includes nine offshore reefs located 1 Mm offshore, at depths of approximately 15-18 metres. The new installations will enhance the seven already in place as of June 2018.
