Until now, there have been many pictures of underwater places to live, which were created in someone’s imagination and then photoshopped. Today, however, we are standing on the threshold of a new era, where the impossible becomes real and tangible. This is the case with the “diving hotel”, which is located under water.

The construction of this project consists of two UFO-like discs and several smaller satellites. One disc, with a diameter of about 27m, will be placed underwater at a depth of about 10m, while the other, 36m long, will be placed on the surface, together with the satellites. The two parts will be connected by three solid pillars and a shaft with a lift and stairs.

The most interesting thing about it, however, is that both the idea and the execution are the responsibility of… Poles! The Water Discus Hotel (as it is called) is a creation of scientists from the Gdańsk University of Technology. The originator is Professor Lech Rowiński, head of the Chair of Ship Theory and Design at the Gdansk University of Technology.

According to the assumptions of the project, with appropriate modifications, the hotel may be erected in various places around the world. It could be Gdynia, Dubai or Maldives. The underwater disc is to contain a living area with 21 double rooms, a bar and… a diving centre! Additionally, the whole thing is to rotate underwater, so that all guests can equally enjoy the view outside the window. In the event of any danger, the living area will be raised to the surface using a special safety system.

Deep Ocean Technology is responsible for the entire project. More information and materials are available on their website.
