World record in statistics broken

Branko Petrovic, a Serbian, broke the freediving world record in statics – a competition that involves holding your breath for as long as possible while your body remains motionless freely submerged in water. Unfortunately, his result of 12min 11s cannot be recognised as a new world record, as all the necessary procedures were not observed.

Unfortunately, his result of 12min 11s cannot be recognised as a new world record, as all the necessary procedures were not observed. Therefore, the official record is still the achievement of Frenchman Stephane Mifsud – 11min 35s, and Branko has to settle for setting a new Serbian record.

Although the athlete certainly feels unsatisfied and disappointed because of this turn of events, the record itself was not his main goal. Petrovic is not a freediver, but an underwater hunter. As a result of an injury sustained during a hunt, he had to rest from deep diving for some time.

In order not to waste any time and to come back even stronger after the injury, he asked the well-known Croatian freediver Vedrana Vidovcic for a training schedule. The training was supposed to increase the time Branko could spend underwater waiting for his catch. Although the training was not easy, the Serb coped very well and soon started achieving results above 10 minutes. Just such a turn of events resulted in an attempt to break the world record. Branko has already announced that he will make another world record attempt if he can raise enough funds.
