Great news for everyone planning a diving holiday in Bali. A giant frigate of over 100 metres will soon be sunk in the Tulamben region, ending her service with the Indonesian Navy.

The information was officially released by the Indonesian Navy and published by the authorities in the region where the new wreck will be permanently moored.

KRI “Slamet Riyadi” 352 is a Van Speijk-class frigate, produced in the 1960s for the Royal Netherlands Navy. It was under the name HNLMS “Van Speijk” that the vessel entered service with the Dutch Navy, where she served from 1967-86, before being sold to the Indonesian authorities, where she lived out her days.

It will now begin a new chapter in its history and will soon become – arguably – the most popular diving attraction in Bali. Who wouldn’t want to visit a ship sunk for divers, which measures 113 metres long and 12.5 metres wide?

It is worth mentioning that Ocean Dive Resort Tulamben already has one large shipwreck, the famous USS “Liberty”, which sank in 1963, during the eruption of Mount Agung volcano. The wreck is extremely popular due to its size – 130 metres long – and its huge accessibility, as it rests submerged at a depth of 9-30 metres.
