Ronald Raasch and two of his companions were diving from the research vessel REV “Ocean” when they came across a giant bubble underwater. It turned out to be a squid egg containing hundreds of thousands of tiny squid.
The sight is extremely rare, so we can speak of great luck, as a video footage recorded by divers and depicting this unusual encounter has found its way online.
On 5 October, the group was returning from a dive during which they explored a World War II shipwreck sunk in the Norwegian Sea. About 200 metres off the Norwegian coast, at a depth of 17 metres, a much more surprising sight awaited them than a pile of steel from a few decades ago…
In the sea, about 15 metres above the bottom, floated an unknown object. A huge transparent bubble, which turned out to be the egg of a short-finned squid (Illex illecebrosus) and a real miracle… a miracle of creation.
