Already in July 2021, the first underwater sculpture museum will open in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. The author of the submerged statues is Jason deCaires Taylor, who has specialized in such projects for years.

Local media report that the opening of the facility very little is left now. The underwater sculpture museum off the coast of Ayia Napa will be ready to welcome its first visitors in mid-July 2021. It is the first diving attraction of its kind in the region and is sure to attract many tourists.

Although the initial plan was that the museum’s grand opening would still take place in 2020. Unfortunately, as in many other cases, ambitious plans was thwarted by a coronavirus pandemic. With all the restrictions and strictures, the local authorities postponed the opening of the facility until next season.

However, it seems that nothing stands in the way anymore and we will soon be able to see another extraordinary installation by Jason deCaires Taylor. The Cypriot museum has been located in the waters of the Mediterranean at Pernera beach, with plans for its creation dating back as far as 2014.

In this particular case, a British artist famous for creating underwater sculptures prepared as many as 70 of them! All of them have been sunk to a depth of about 10 metres. As in similar museums in many other places in the world, they will be available not only for divers, but also for freedivers and snorkelers.

As for the subject matter, the theme is the forest. The sculptures stand among specially made organic trees and underwater plants. The entire installation creates a magnificent underwater forest, which is sure to become vibrant very quickly.

An underwater sculpture museum in Cyprus, is one of the a number of projects approved by the local municipality for tourism development in Ayia Napa.
