Thanks to the performances of our representatives at the AIDA Pool World Championships 2016 Finland, we have another reason to be extremely happy! Two new World Records and two gold medals fell to Magdalena Solich and the reliable Mateusz Malina, who in the Dynamic No Fins competition did not give a chance to their rivals!
The fifth day of the World Championships in Finland our team can consider exceptionally successful. First, Magdalena Solich with the result of 185 metres reached for the gold medal and the World Record (improving at the same time the Polish record), and then Mateusz Malina with the result of 244 metres doubled the achievement of the Polish representation that day.
Both results deserve great admiration and respect. The closest competitor Magdalena Solich achieved a result 20 meters shorter – 165 m, while Mateusz Malin improved by 12 meters his own world record established… at the beginning of the ongoing competition! Of course it was a show of strength and great form of our athletes, but probably no one expected such sensational results.
It is enough to see how the Polish freediving scene has developed in the last decade to notice that history is happening before our eyes. Thanks to extraordinary fortitude, gruelling training and the right lifestyle, Polish competitors are growing into a real power in free diving.
Let us hope that successes such as these will also allow funds to be found for the further development of our current and future champions, as well as for the training of their worthy successors. Medals and records are, after all, only the result of considerable effort and financial resources, which allow you to train regularly and take part in further competitions where you can compete with the best.
