Tomasz Stachura “The Way of Death” – premiere

Exactly in the 75th anniversary of the greatest maritime tragedy in history – the sinking of the ship Wilhelm Gustloff, an extremely interesting book “Route of Death” by Tomasz Stachura will have its premiere. For those who have been following Tomek’s achievements so far, this is certainly a publication you cannot pass by indifferently.

The author, known, among others, for his wonderful photographs and participation in many wreck diving projects, decided to collect his experiences and include them in the form of a book. The axis of the action will be the Baltic wrecks of German ships that took part in the evacuation operation Hannibal and were sunk by the Soviets in 1945.

This is not surprising. After all, right under our noses we have wrecks of ships that claimed a huge number of victims and became known as the greatest tragedies in the history of shipping. Recently, it is the “Big Three”(Steuben, Gustloff and Goya) that Stachura and the Baltictech group have devoted most attention to.

Within the framework of legal diving conducted with the consent and in cooperation with representatives of relevant institutions, it was possible to conduct a full inventory of these wrecks. What is sad, it is only the first one and at the same time it shows the enormity of losses and devastation done by divers from all over Europe, who in the last two decades illegally conducted dives stealing historic wrecks.

“After working on these projects, I created the book ‘Route of Death’. It includes many never-before-published underwater photographs, showing the current state of the wrecks, and a lot of historical information describing the last days of East Prussia from the perspective of the ongoing evacuation.”

The book will be published on 30 January 2020, exactly 75 years after the Gustloff left Gdynia and was sunk off Łeba. The premiere and the author’s evening will take place at the Naval Museum in Gdynia on 30 January 2020 at 6 p.m., where, in addition to the meeting, the book will be available for purchase. The day after the premiere the book will be available for purchase on the author’s website – stachuraphoto.com
