A team of five local amateur divers discovered the boat on 6 November last year after a 12-month search. It turned out that the vessel was in good condition. Diver Ian Kelleher said they were very surprised and excited by the fact that, they found only minor blast damage. Identification of the vessel was possible by finding the boat number stamped on the ship’s propeller.

The group of divers who discovered the wreck placed a plaque near the bolt commemorating the 27 Germans who died there.

The divers plan to return to the wreck and continue their research.
