The legendary “Calypso” unit made of LEGO bricks?

We have written this year about both Jacques Cousteau and his famous research vessel RV “Calypso”. The Cousteau Society has taken on the task of restoring the legendary vessel to the seas and oceans. Acting despite the adversities that did not spare this noble mission. In September, some of the already restored elements were burnt down by a sudden fire and although the work continues, it will drag on considerably as a result.

While the hull of ‘Calypso’ is still undergoing renovation in the Turkish shipyard, some enthusiasts of the underwater world have decided to make the wait for the legend’s return at least a little more pleasant.

Luis Peña, an admirer of Cousteau, has created a replica of the ship in 1:100 scale, without forgetting the crew, headed by the French explorer. As he recalls, he was a great fan of the programme “The Underwater World of Jacques Cousteau” when he was a child, and he wants the youngest children of today to also be inspired by Cousteau’s achievements in the most accessible way for them – through play.

The project has been uploaded to the Lego Idea Bank – now its success will depend on the number of votes received. We hope that the diving community will not be disappointed and soon Cousteau himself will be looking at us with fatherly eyes from a toy shop window. Perhaps in a slightly more angular, but credible enough for children’s imagination version.

You can vote for your idea at LEGO ideas.
