On 25-29 July, in Somerset (England), will be held technical diving workshop Tekcamp 2011. This is a unique opportunity to participate in classes conducted by leading technical divers from the UK.
As well as giving you the opportunity to hone your skills, it will also be a great opportunity to get acquainted with equipment, from companies such as: Suunto, Fourth Element, Halcyon, ApeksVR Technology, Hollis, BSAC, Sea&Sea, TekRec, Typhoon and Atomic Aquatics. The full range of products will be on display at the stands of each company.
The topics covered at Tekcamp 2011, will be divided thematically into the following sections:
Rebreather – theory and practice, class includes briefing and 1 hour of instructor-led diving. A great chance to try out top equipment in combat conditions, under the watchful eye of professionals.
Scooter Diving – activities during which participants will learn about the operation and specifics of diving with the use of a diving scooter. There will also be a practical part, i.e. a lot of fun under water.
Propulsion – thanks to this workshop, divers will be able to improve their movement with the fins, which is absolutely fundamental in technical diving.
Line Laying – nothing else but learning how to rappel. Another of the basic skills, necessary in most technical dives. Thanks to these workshops, our and cave diving and wreck diving will surely gain in safety.
Failures – what can go wrong? How to recognise and solve problems and hazards underwater? Knowledge to be a better technical diver, able to help ourselves and our partners in an emergency situation.
Controlled Ascents – controlled ascent, maintaining depth during decompression stops, all without much effort. Without this skill, diving on mixtures other than air is playing with fire.
Sidemount Diving – diving in this increasingly popular configuration, which is an alternative to traditional sets, requires getting to know its specifics and expanding your knowledge and skills.
Tech Rescue – a must. During the workshop we will learn about rescue techniques for twinset and closed circuit divers. We will learn what the procedures are if decompression stops are required and many other key issues in the field of rescue in technical diving.
Stage Handling – all about diving with a side cylinder. If we decide to push the limits of recreational diving, we should know, how to correctly operate and configure the stage.
Dive&Survive – anyone can make a mistake. In this workshop we will learn what to do when a problem occurs and how to deal with it. An important part of the class will also be preparing and analysing dives to eliminate potential risks.
This solid mix of theory and practice will be given in 5 days, by authorities in various fields of technical diving. Among the names of the instructors, there is a well known in Poland Phill Shortwhose lecture at last year’s Baltictechucave diving, was considered one of the most interesting speeches.
Apart from him, his knowledge will be shared with the guests of Tekcamp: Clare Pooley (DIR Technical Instructor), Howard Payne (IANTD Technical Instructor), John Kendal (GUE Technical Instructor), Mark Powell (IANTD&TDI Technical Instructor), Martin Robson (Senior Instructor Trainer Trainer (ITT) l IANTD, TDI, NACD & NSS-CDS), Mike Pots (Open & Closed Circuit Technical Instructor l TDI & IANTD), Paul Toomer (Technical Instructor Trainerl IANTD, TDI, IART & DSAT), Rich Stevenson (Technical Instructor IANTD&TDI) and Rich Walker (GUE UK Training Director).
An additional attraction will be the drawing of valuable prizes among the participants, e.g. NHeO3 trimix computer, Hollis SMS100 Sidemount System, Halcyon stage machine and many others.
The daily cost of participation in the classes is £80. In addition to the passes, the organisers have decided to introduce daily passes, so we can choose only some of the topics that interest us. The timetable and all information about participation can be found on Tekcamp’s website -. link.
