Szczecin: barrels with oil were found at the bottom of the Emerald Lake

As TVN24 informs, a group of divers during training in Emerald Lake near Szczecin, came across sunken barrels with unidentified contents. So far it is not known who sunk the barrels, or how great a danger their contents pose.

What is certain is that the matter is urgent and serious. Some of the barrels found are leaking and an oily stain is already floating on the surface of the water. The found barrels must have been abandoned recently, as the Emerald Lake is a body of water relatively frequently visited by the local diving community.

The description on the barrels suggests that some of them may contain process oil for machinery. TVN24 reports that it is not known if all the barrels are filled with oil or if some of them are empty. We assume the most pessimistic scenario, as sinking an empty barrel would not make much sense.

The Regional Environment Protection Directorate and the municipal services company managing the area have already been informed about the dangerous find. According to the information received from a ZUK representative, the barrels will be excavated when the weather improves.

However, the opinion of ZUK stating that there is no danger can be alarming. It does not coincide in any way with the version of divers, who claim that some barrels are leaking. Let us hope that the matter will soon find its happy ending.
