Extremely interesting information reached us from Świnoujście. In the local Fort Gerhard, while clearing the moat bed of trees and branches broken by the wind, a discovery was found which no one expected!

The object found resembles the shape of a cannon barrel. So far, however, there are no more details about the find. Today further work is being carried out and if conditions permit an attempt will be made to excavate the mysterious artefact.

Preliminary inspections carried out in recent days indicate that the object discovered in the moat may weigh around two tonnes. An underwater archaeologist has already inspected the object and, according to his opinion, the potential cannon is probably several hundred years old.

We will probably learn more details in the next few hours. Provided, of course, that the find can be brought to the surface. Nevertheless, even now the first theories about the origin of the mysterious cannon are already emerging.

Fort Gerhard, also called Fort East, was built between 1856 and 1863 and is part of the Świnoujście Fortress. It is located on Wolin Island, near the lighthouse. The fortification is one of the best preserved Prussian coastal artillery forts in Europe.

Today it functions as an extremely unique museum where history is very much alive. Anyone who has never had the opportunity to visit this place is strongly recommended to catch up. You can read more about the fort and its attractions today here.
