Some information about the 4th edition of the Wreck Festival

Some information about the 4th edition of the Wreck Festival

We are slowly approaching 16 February, when wreck diving enthusiasts will gather at the Lodz University of Technology. Today we encourage everyone to purchase tickets for this fantastic event, and as a foretaste we publish some of the issues that will be discussed during the presentation!

Presentation topics:

Mario Weidner – the topic of the presentation will be: “Wreck diving in the early 1990s in the North Channel of the Irish Sea”. Mario will talk about the search and exploration of the SS Tuscania transatlantic wreck sunk during WWI. We will learn about the beginnings of using diving gases at a time when technical diving had not yet been born. This will be the story of one of the first dives to depths of over 100 metres in British waters.

Danijel Frka – the topic of Danijel’s presentation will be his new book “Blago Jadrana” (Treasures of the Adriatic) we will learn about the history and conditions of diving on the most interesting wrecks of the eastern Adriatic coast, the book describes as many as 56 such wrecks. We will have the opportunity to see historical and underwater photographs of the discussed wrecks.

Marcin Jamkowski – the topic of the presentation will be the expedition “Sierra 2012”. Marcin will talk about the details of this amazing adventure and how they managed to find 28 cannons and 5 large anchors from a ship that sank “at the end of the world” more than two centuries ago. Marcin will also be the host of the 4th edition of the festival.

Tomek Stachura – the topic of Tomek’s presentation will be an account of the research and inventory of the wreck of the Mars, discovered off the Swedish coast in 2011 by Oceanexplorers at a depth of 73 metres. We will learn about the techniques and methods of the research and what the cooperation between archaeologists, amateur divers and state institutions looked like.

Piotr Kardasz – the topic of the presentation will be: “Camera instead of camera – filming with a digital SLR camera”. We will learn about the details of filming and editing footage shot underwater with cameras. Piotr will tell and show you which equipment to choose and why, the differences, advantages and disadvantages compared to traditional cameras, as well as what to take care of and what to pay attention to after entering the water with a camera.

Sebastian Long – Sebastian’s presentation topic will be:

– Sidemount deeper and longer – how to configure sidemount equipment for technical decompression and recreational multi-level dives. Limits and possibilities.

– Sidemount diver paired with backmount – emergency procedures, compatibility.

Daniel Pastwa – the subject of Daniel’s presentation will be the characteristics of several known, less known and unknown wrecks resting in the area of the Hel Peninsula in the context of historical events including the methodology of their identification on the basis of historical materials (photographs, publications and archival materials), direct materials (photographs and underwater films) and indirect materials (sonar scans).

Wojciech Jechna – the topic of Wojtek’s presentation will be: “U 768 – history, search, find and first dive”. On November 20, 1943 U-768 set sail on its last voyage. After a collision with another U-boat it remained forever in the depths of the cold Baltic Sea. We will learn about the history of this U-boat as a training ship, its construction, armament, place and reasons for its sinking.
