– Fixed an issue where in CC/BO the gas lists in the logbook were swapped
– Changed the % O2 threshold for in classifying a gas as a deco gas. It is now 40% O2 (previously 50%).
– Fixed a display error in the menu where in gauge mode the value of the GTR / SAC option was displayed as “Off (Gauge) Off” instead of simply “Off (Gauge)”.
Of the Canadian brand’s signature products to date, the Teric is the most compact and sleek model. There’s no denying that in comparison with the Petrel or Perdix, the Teric watch looks almost like a toy. Almost, because it certainly isn’t one when you read the specifications.
All indications of the Shearwater Teric are presented on a colour AMOLED display, which should be easy to read even in the most adverse conditions. It is operated using four buttons, just like many other watches. The creators, following the logic and intuition of the user, wanted the new unit to be as easy to operate as possible.
What is more, there was no lack of space for personalisation of the unit to our own needs. Therefore, we can configure one of the buttons, so that after a single press, it starts the function assigned to us, such as stopwatch, compass, timer, etc.
Teric is AI compatible and can monitor up to two transmitters, in two different tanks. It has Recreational, Gauge, OC Tech and CC/BO modes, with the ability to use up to 5 trimix or nitrox mixes.
A total novelty is that the Shearwater unit is equipped with a Freediving mode. This is advanced enough to allow the user to set the sampling and recording frequency. As the developers assure us, Teric also features improved ascent and descent rates, and the whole thing has a range of audible and vibration alerts that can be configured or disabled from the user level.
Shearwater Teric is also moving forward with battery charging and uses a wireless inductive charger. Transmission of data from the unit and software updates, is done as with previous models, using Bluetooth. Wireless operation in the aforementioned ranges makes the Teric a completely sealed and enclosed unit, making it virtually impossible for water to get inside.
As for battery replacement, this can be carried out as with the NERD 2 unit, at one of Shearwater’s authorised outlets. Given that the battery life is set at 5 years, this does not seem to be a particularly troublesome procedure.
The manufacturer also ensures that, in terms of hardware, the Teric has been designed to leave plenty of room for development, further updates and the introduction of new features. So when buying a new model of Shearwater unit, we can be sure that it will be innovative and will meet the expectations of even the most demanding users, for many years to come.
