Sensational find in Swedish waters! An unknown wreck of a Russian submarine has been discovered!

A group of Swedish divers, the ‘Ocean X Team’, has announced that the wreck of a Russian mini-submarine has been found. During an expedition conducted last week, members of the group came across a wreck that no one knew about. Due to the distance of 1.5 Mm from shore, the theory that the vessel was involved in a secret mission is likely.

The wreck, located in coastal waters in central Sweden, is 20 metres long and 3.5 metres wide. It is not known how long the ship has been resting on the bottom. The ship was initially identified as Russian. This was possible due to distinctive Russian letters found on the hull.

“The wreck is intact, lacking any visible damage to the hull and the hatches are closed. We are also concerned that due to the latter fact, the crew were unable to evacuate and are still inside the ship.” – said Stefan Hogeborn, a member of the Ocean X Team.

The unusual find was made using a remotely operated ROV armed with a camera. Now the Swedes are preparing another expedition, during which divers will examine the wreck in more detail and document it.

It remains a mystery what the vessel was doing in the area and as a result of what circumstances it sank. The divers of the ‘Ocean X Team’ have not come across any traces which might indicate that the vessel was sunk by another ship. It is also unknown how old the vessel is and how long it has been lying on the bottom.

The Swedish navy has already been informed of the find and is currently analysing the video footage provided. Even Tomas Ries of the National Defence Academy concluded from the video footage that the wreck looked reasonably contemporary.

Update:
From unofficial information we know that the name of the ship has been successfully read. At the moment, it is not yet public. It has thus been established that the ship is 99 years old. Another piece of information is that it rests at a depth of more than 40 metres.
