The new battery is a novelty presented by Polish DPV manufacturer Seacraft dedicated to air travel.
DPV (Diver Propulsion Vehicle) diving scooters have been around for a long time. However, professional devices of this type for a very long time were equipment available for only a few. They were used only by uniformed services or advanced technical divers during demanding and long exploratory dives (if they had a sufficiently rich wallet or scooter manufacturer support).
The unquestionable advantages of DPV scooters and the rapid development of technology translated into their popularisation among divers. More and more eagerly they began to reach for them because of their own convenience or simply the pleasure derived from diving with an additional drive.
Using a scooter, we can move underwater faster, more efficiently and with much less effort. This translates into our subjective feelings and well-being. Diving becomes easier and more enjoyable, especially since the DPV is no longer just a propulsion system.
Seacraft scooters can be equipped with dedicated lighting, navigation or even a dedicated connection for electric heating. All this makes the DPV scooter, despite its price, an essential diving companion for many divers. Unfortunately, taking our unit everywhere we would like to dive is not always possible.
The problem with taking a scooter on a dive arises when we are going to use air transport. Specifically, there are regulations regarding the carriage of Li-Ion batteries, which are the source of power for DPV units. They state that batteries can only be transported in hand luggage and the maximum value of a single pack is set at 100 Wh.
In order to circumvent these restrictions, some manufacturers use packs based on the older NiCd (nickel-cadmium) technology. Unfortunately, the disadvantages of such solution are low efficiency and significant decrease of pack capacity with time.
Polish DPV scooter manufacturer Seacraft brand decided to find a proprietary solution that would avoid such an unfavourable compromise. The key was to stay with Li-Ion technology, which works best and is the most efficient. Therefore, a solution was created, which is a battery consisting of mini modules, where the value of each module is 97 Wh.
Thanks to a special casing (in the shape of a standard one), we can combine mini packs into one bigger one. We no longer have to accept half-measures and we are sure that our scooter will go with us to every corner of the world. It is also worth mentioning that the new Seacraft solution is compatible with the standard charger.
