Santi’s Finding the Eagle expedition intensifies its search

The first expedition this year SANTI Finding the Eagle, and the seventh in succession, has just come to an end. Thanks to the cooperation with Sea War Museum Jutland established in 2018, the scope of the search was conducted on a very large scale.

Polish researchers began working with the museum in 2018. Numerous meetings have resulted in a search partnership. Jutland Battle Museum from Thyboron in Denmark, under the aegis of founder Gert Normann, conducts the most specialised and regular search for wrecks in the North Sea and has numerous vessels and equipment necessary for such searches.

The team Santi Finding the Eagle joined the expedition, which started on 18 March this year and lasted 5 days. The exploration was carried out on the 74 metre long vessel M/S “Vina”, specially adapted for such research. An area of over 743 Mm was surveyed, 50 positions were checked, 34 of which were newly discovered beautiful wrecks.

Emotions ran high when the team came across the wreck of a submarine twice. After careful research, however, it turned out that the first was the German U-Boat U-319 and the second was the Russian submarine S-194, which sank in 2007 while being towed to a Spanish shipyard and whose position was previously unknown.

[blockquote style=”2″]There is no greater expert on wreck exploration in the North Sea than Gert Normann. Thanks to our cooperation we have greatly intensified the research and search. It was one of the biggest expeditions we have done so far. We did a great job and, as I have said many times, we keep searching until we succeed,” comments Tomasz Stachura, head of the Project.[/blockquote].

The team continues to work and is preparing for another search.

This year promises to be very active, I do not rule out that we will manage to organise as many as two expeditions – in summer and autumn. Moreover, a documentary film will be finished soon, showing our efforts to solve the mystery of ORP “Orzeł” – says Benedykt Hac, hydrographer and co-organiser of the expeditions.

Since its inception, the SANTI Finding the Eagle project has been financed by funds raised from sponsors and through the support of private individuals.

SANTI is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of diving equipment. In just a few years the company from Gdynia has transformed from a local manufacturer of diving suits into a brand with an established position on the global market of diving equipment in the world.

The company is present on all continents, selling to nearly 40 countries worldwide, including: the USA, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Brazil and the main European markets. SANTI’s flagship products include dry diving suits and warmers. For several years SANTI has been actively involved in organising and supporting international research expeditions (e.g. Sedna, Under the Pole, Elysium) and searching for wrecks all over the world. This is how the project “SANTI – Finding the “Eagle”” was born, a project that aims to find the wreck and finally solve the mystery of the disappearance of the Polish ship.
