Research expedition of Polish divers to Sierra Leone

In the correspondence I received recently, I found a message from our good friends – Piotr “General” Wytykowski and Roman “Romano” Zajder. They informed me about their new project and, as usual, invited me to cooperate. The goal was almost unexplored. Information as scarce. Conclusion? You have to check it out! Let’s go to Sierra

On 9 November, the expedition participants will set off via Bruxelles to Freetown. On site, they will be carrying out exploration work for a fortnight. Fortunately, thanks to the provision of bathymetric maps of the region by the Hydrographic Office in London, it will be easier to pinpoint targets.

It turns out that there are white spots on maps, indicating the existence of areas so far unexplored and undescribed. Months of work which the organisers have devoted to searching for materials about the wrecks in the National Archives in England, museums and libraries around the world, allow us to count on interesting discoveries.

The direction chosen is very demanding and logistically extremely difficult. In order to realise their ambitious plans, the expedition members have to carry almost 400kg of equipment. This includes side scan sonar, a compressor, cylinders, an underwater metal detector and, due to the particularity of the location, a weather station.

Each member of the expedition has already been vaccinated against all the “Egyptian plagues”. The necessary documents and visas are complete and all that remains is to look out for the start date.

As with previous projects involving General and Romano, this time Divers24 will be reporting on the progress and results of the search.
