In May 2014, a team of Baltictech divers, during a routine dive on a wreck previously known as Torpedoboot T3, found a ship’s bell marked T5. This means that it was previously incorrectly marked and its correct name is T5. The wreck lies on the starboard side with a piece of the stern missing. The wreck is half covered by sand and silt deposits. The depth at the bottom is 66m.
The unit was included into the 1st Flotilla of torpedo boats in the second half of 1940. After the operations in the area of Jutland and the minesweeping operations in the strategic areas of North Sea, in September 1940. T5 was briefly sent to France.
After a short stay in Germany, the 1st Torpedo Flotilla was transferred to Norway and then disbanded in April 1941. As a result of these actions, T5 was transferred to the 2nd Torpedo Flotilla.
After Norway, some ships were sent to support German troops during the invasion of the Soviet Union, while others took part in Operation Cerberus in 1942.
The other units were included into the school of torpedo boats located in the area of the Baltic Sea, where they served until the middle of 1943. In 1944r. The 2nd Flotilla of torpedo boats was used for the escort of other ships in the Baltic Sea. T5 was sunk in the area of Hel after hitting a mine on 14 March 1945.
