The prosecution has dropped the most serious charges against those involved in the tragic dive during which Robert Szlecht died.
According to the latest informationthat the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lębork has discontinued the proceedings in the case of manslaughter of Robert Szlecht. The inhabitant of Poznań died during a wreck diving expedition in 2012. In the diving community, the case became famous under the name “Terra 2”.
The discontinued court proceedings concerned charges of failing to render assistance to a person in immediate danger of losing life or health and manslaughter. However, there are more allegations and this is probably not the end of the whole case.
The investigation did not indicate that any persons contributed to the death of the victim. The proceedings in this regard were discontinued, and part of the material was excluded in order to carry out proceedings for false testimony and falsification of documentation. This is a new proceeding which has a new reference number. – said Patryk Wegner, the District Prosecutor in Lębork
This tragic story happened on 28 July 2012. It was then that one of the participants, Robert Szlecht, went missing during the wreck. The whole story aroused many extreme emotions due to the testimonies of the people accompanying him. The other participants of the expedition maintained to the very end that it was conducted on the wreck of the tanker “Terra”, and not “Wilhelm Gustloff”.
This contradicted the testimony of the wife of the missing man. In addition, the rescue services conducted a search and rescue operation on the wreck of the “Terra” and in its vicinity. Of course, at that time the missing Robert Szlecht could not be found. Until 5 June 2019. The discovery and identification of the corpse created the opportunity to clarify definitively what and where happened on 28 July 2012.
When a body was found on the wreck of the Wilhelm Gustloff, it became clear to many that it was the missing diver Robert Szlecht. However, it was necessary to confirm his identity. This was helped by objects found with the body and distinctive diving equipment. However, after excavation of the remains by the Navy, all doubts were dispelled DNA test conducted.
