The Association Internationale pour le Développement de l’Apnée has announced that the AIDA Individual Pool Freediving World Championships Burgas 2021 scheduled for 19-29 June has been cancelled.

The AIDA Pool World Championships is one of the most important, if not the most important freediving event held in a pool. As you can easily guess, reason for cancellation of the competition is the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions.

Official announcement

Due to the feedback we have received from you and after careful consideration of the current situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the AIDA 2021 Individual World Championships. Under the current circumstances, we are unable to host the 2021 World Championships. – reads the official announcement from AIDA

Polish freedivers getting ready to compete in Bulgaria are certainly inconsolable. Especially if we take into account their phenomenal performances in recent years. It is enough to mention that both Madgalena Solich-Talanda and Mateusz Malina hold two world records each in pool competitions.

Passionate past

It is also worth recalling the great competition of the best Polish freedivers at the Pool World Championships in Belgrade. In 2018. Magdalena Solich-Talanda and Julia Kozierska captured the podium in the DNF and DYN competitions. Talanda’s two gold medals and Kozierska’s two silver medals were the culmination of their passionate duels.

Unfortunately, this is the second year in a row when it was not possible to organize the World Pool Championships in Burgas. So once again, we will miss the wonderful emotions that accompanied the previous competitions. Let’s hope, however, that our champions will be able to prepare for the next great event in suitable conditions.
