Pole takes 2nd place in prestigious Under Water Photography competition

One of the most prestigious photography competitions Underwater Photography of the Year 2018 has come to an end and the results in all categories are now known. We are pleased to announce that among the winners was a Pole – Jakub Degee! He received 2nd place for his hammerhead photo. It seems to us that Jakub is the first Pole to become a finalist in this internationally recognised competition.

Jakub Degee Born in 1979, he started diving in 1992 and obtained his instructor’s degree in 2002. He is a graduate of the Academy of Photography in Warsaw. He trained under the supervision of Dr Alex Mustard at workshops in Indonesia, the Philippines and the Cayman Islands. He photographs mainly portraits and specialises in shark photography. In his collection he has a lot of very good and interesting photos, some of them he showed us at the Diving Fair Underwater Adventure. Jakub’s award winning photo was published first in the British Mirror.

Most importantly for the winner are the words of renowned Photographer and Juror in the competition, Peter Rowlands: “Heaven knows how many pictures of hammerhead sharks we have seen. It took an outstanding one to impress us with its power, symmetry and originality. This is it.”

We sincerely congratulate Jakub and hope that he will spread his wings and inspire other photographers to compete with the best in the world.
