We already know the composition of the national team for this year’s Freediving World Championships

This year’s AIDA World Pool Championships will take place in Belgrade for the third time. This probably the biggest freediving event in the world will take place from June 23rd to July 1st and this time the races of each discipline will be held in a 50m indoor pool.

Nomination to the national team and participation in this event is determined by the results achieved during the preceding calendar year. Each AIDA member country can nominate the top 4 male and female athletes in 3 events to perform: DNF, DYN and STA. In addition, the world’s top 10 in a given discipline receive so-called “wild cards”, which are invitations from the organiser and constitute outside national nominations. Last year, our athletes did very well and received a total of 11 wild cards! Thus, they made room for other competitors, who could receive a nomination to the national team. The players were to inform about the final participation in the World Championships immediately after receiving the nomination. If they decided not to participate, they would make room for the next freedivers waiting in line.

At the previous AIDA World Pool Championships held in Turku, Finland, in 2016, the Poles won a total of 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal, as well as two special awards, which were won by Magdalena Solich-Talanda and Mateusz Malina.
Will this year’s World Championships be equally fruitful? We can only hope that it will be even better, and the record-breaking representation will win a record number of medals!

World Cup medals and world records of the Polish national team combined from 2007 to 2017:

AIDA World Pool Championships – medals:
5 gold
4 silver
2 bronze

2 silver
1 bronze

AIDA World Records:
– 2 women’s discipline records in the pool (Magdalena Solich-Talanda – DNF)
– 5 men’s swimming discipline records (Mateusz Malina – DNF, DYN)

The national team is currently looking for sponsors and partners who are interested in supporting the preparations and financing the costs of participation in this year’s World Championships.
