Researchers from OceanGate Expeditions conducted their expedition using the unique Titan submarine. It is the only vehicle of its kind in the world. The 5-person boat can take the crew to depths as deep as 4,000 metres. It was a unique opportunity for the scientists to explore the wreck of the RMS Titanic in person.
A team of renowned experts, researchers and scientists has returned to Newfoundland. During six weeks of work, they collected the highest quality photographic and film documentation the wreck of the RMS Titanic. These are materials that nobody has had before. They will now be used to further examination of the wreck by experts in many fields.
It is undoubtedly worth emphasising that among the documentation produced there are photographs which show these fragments of the wreck of the Titanicwhich have never been captured before. This is all the more important because the remains the world’s most famous shipwreck They are in increasingly poor condition. According to researchers, the progressive degradation will lead to the complete destruction of the Titanic in the coming years.
We have collected thousands of new images and videos of considerable value to share with other researchers. We have also prepared a draft ArcGIS map of the site, onto which we have overlaid profiles from the dips. After our next expeditions we will be adding further layers of data and images to this map. – Dr Briget Buxton, a marine archaeologist at the University of Rhode Island, said.
The end of the Titanic Survey Expedition 2021 also marks the end of the Titan submarine development programme. Undoubtedly, the successful launch and implementation of new technology opens the door to further activities around the world. However, the company plans to Annual return to the Titanic wreck. Hydrothermal vents, unique biological ecosystems and other shipwrecks are also on the list of future expeditions.
Titan is a complex underwater vehicle that has been designed, built and tested to the highest aviation standards. I have always been impressed with the talented OceanGate team and the level of safety they provided to the crew. This has resulted in repeatable extremely deep dives. – said Dr Scott Parazynski, a member of the US Astronaut Hall of Fame and a veteran of 5 space flights and 7 spacewalks.
In September 2021, the team OceanGate Expeditions plans to dive into the Hudson Canyon near New York City. The scientists’ goal will be to study the marine life and geology of this very interesting place.
