Deep-sea explorer, discoverer and great photographer, who dedicated his life to studying and documenting the underwater world. He was a true guru for a whole host of underwater photographers and naturalists.

Sadly we end the week with sad news. Another legend from the diving pantheon has passed away – Neville Coleman. Deep-sea explorer, discoverer and great photographer, who dedicated his life to studying and documenting the underwater world. He was a true guru for a whole host of underwater photographers and naturalists.

His work as a documentarian of underwater reality spans the last 45 years! He has discovered and classified more than 450 new species of marine life in his search for more amazing shots! He has authored or co-authored 65 books related to photography, diving and marine flora and fauna.

He was described by those lucky enough to come into contact with him as a wonderful and tireless ambassador for Australia’s marine environment. He was awarded the prestigious Order of Australia medal for his achievements.

Many of the species he discovered are named in his honour, but it is the people he inspired with his work and who will carry on his work that are the best evidence of the stigma he left behind when exploring the underwater world.
