Martin Valenta died

Extremely sad news has reached us from the Czech Republic. According to representatives of the local federation, one of the best Czech freedivers – Martin Valenta – has died. Extremely sad news has reached us from the Czech Republic. According to representatives of the local federation, one of the best Czech freedivers – Martin Valenta – has died. The 28-year-old athlete passed away on April 9, 2017. Last year alone Valenta set six national records in free diving.

The body of the Czech freediver was found at the bottom of the pool in Jilemnice, where he had been training. At the moment there are no details about the whole incident. The local police are investigating.

The whole incident was reported via the official facebook of AIDA Czech Republic:

“We are sadly obliged to inform the freediving community that a friend and great athlete – Martin Valenta – passed away from us on Sunday 9 April 2017.”

Valenta had a very successful season behind him and many augured for more and more success. In addition to six national records in 2016 and great performances in the Czech Championships and the Polish Championships, he won a bronze medal in statics at the World Pool Championships in Finland and was fifth in dynamics. He was also part of the team that won bronze at the World Team Championships in 2012, silver in 2014 and sensationally reached for the gold medal in 2016.

On 14 April 2017 at 11am, family and loved ones accompanied Martin on his final journey.
