Already on 13 February we will meet again in the hospitable walls of the Technical University of Lodz, to participate together in the VI edition of the Lodz Wreck Diving Festival. The event was planned to take place only in 2017, but the organizers, due to the available information and very interesting materials, decided to compress and present everything 12 months earlier. For today we have a handful of information for you, regarding the already known speakers and the range of topics, as well as other information related to the event.
Mark “Jonesy” Jones – wreck diving in the UK
The waters surrounding the British Isles are strewn with hundreds of attractive wrecks. It is a real paradise for divers and history enthusiasts. Organising a weekend trip does not cause any trouble. Our next speaker, Mark “Jonesy” Jones, will talk about the most interesting wrecks for divers of all levels of experience. This amiable Briton is a very experienced wreck diver. The number of hours he has spent underwater is impressive! We will find out where and on which wrecks it is best to go. Jonesy will tell us what we can expect during the exploration, as well as how to go down in history by finding a ship’s bell. Sebastian Długi – diving in side mount configuration
Side Mount is an increasingly popular diving method, which ceases to be associated only with cave, technical or wreck diving. Today, the side mount configuration is perfectly suitable for recreational diving and, what is most interesting, it is becoming increasingly popular among women, who perceive it as easy and accessible. Sebastian Długi – instructor and Side Mount enthusiast for many years will talk about why it is worth diving in the side mount configuration and how much more comfortable it is for women. The lecture will also briefly touch on the rules of use and possibilities of attaching headlamps, back ups and helmets.
Gianmichele Iaria – Diving in the region of Sicily and the Gulf of Mexico
The coast of Sicily and the Gulf of Messina are poorly known by Polish wreck divers. Gianmichele Iaria, a technical rebreather diver and instructor with extensive experience as well as an experienced underwater filmmaker, during the festival presentation will take us on an amazing “tour” of the newly discovered wrecks of the Gulf of Messina. The last expedition in which he took part was full of sensational discoveries recorded with the eye of the camera.
Mariusz Borowiak – combat achievements of the Polish Navy in the Mediterranean between 1941 and 1944
We have a real treat for lovers of the history of the Polish Navy! Mariusz Borowiak, one of the best Polish maritime writers, will talk about the combat achievements in the Mediterranean Sea in the years 1941-1944 of two submarines ORP Sokół and ORP Dzik, which were called the ‘Terrible Twins’ not without reason. Mariusz Borowiak is in the process of writing another book about the PMW operations in WWII in the Mediterranean, which will include little-known episodes from the battles and successes achieved by our submarines. The festival presentation will bring closer the fate of the submarine predators under the Polish flag and the role they played in the battle for this strategically very important area.
