Japan’s Maritime Science and Technology Agency has developed a new generation manned underwater vehicle. The device will be able to dive to the deepest places on Earth. Could it be that Japanese constructors envy the feat of James Cameron, who descended to the bottom of the Mariana Trench?

The spherical capsule protecting the crew of the improved Shinkai, will be able to withstand water pressure to a depth of 12,000 metres, almost double that of the Shinkai 6500 vehicle. The new manned boat will allow scientists to conduct research at the bottom of the Mariana Trench to a depth of almost 11,000 metres.

A four-person crew will be on board the Shinkai 12000 bathyscaphe, which will easily be able to spend several days deep below the surface. Currently, there are more than a dozen manned submersible vehicles in use in the world, designed to perform tasks in marine and ocean environments. They have proven their effectiveness and usefulness in rescue operations, tasks of monitoring water areas and supporting scientific research.
